Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 26, 2026

savd exists to help people quit gambling with the support of friends they trust. That only works if you can trust us — so this policy is written in plain English, and it says what we actually do. If anything here is unclear, email us at hello@savd.app and a human will answer.

savd has not launched yet. This policy describes how the savd app and the savd.app website will handle your information, and it applies to the website today. We will update it (and the date above) before and after launch as the product evolves.

1. What we collect

We collect only what the app needs to work:

  • Account information. Your name (or the display name you choose), email address, and an optional profile photo or avatar. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the basic profile details those services share.
  • Bank transaction data. If you choose to connect a bank account, we receive read-only transaction information through a trusted third-party bank connection provider. See section 2 for exactly how this works.
  • Goal and circle activity. The goals you create (names, target amounts, progress), the circles you join, your streak history, check-ins, and messages of support you send within a circle.
  • Device and usage basics. Standard technical information such as device type, operating system version, app version, and crash logs, so we can keep the app working well.

We do not collect your precise location, your contacts list (unless you explicitly choose to invite friends from it, and then only to send the invitations you approve), or anything from other apps on your device.

2. Bank connection and transaction data

Connecting your bank is optional, but it is how savd detects gambling transactions — so accountability works without anyone having to self-report.

  • Read-only, always. The connection is made through established third-party bank connection providers using bank-level encryption. It permits savd to view transaction information only. savd cannot move, hold, withdraw, transfer, or touch your money in any way. There is no technical mechanism in savd that can initiate a payment from your account.
  • We never see your bank login. You authenticate directly with your bank through the provider's secure interface. Your banking username and password are never sent to, seen by, or stored by savd.
  • What we look at. We analyze transaction descriptions, merchant categories, and amounts to identify transactions at known gambling merchants (casinos, sportsbooks, betting apps, lottery services, and similar). Detected gambling transactions affect your streak status.
  • What we store. We store the minimum needed to run your streaks and savings estimates. We do not use your transaction data to build advertising profiles, and we do not share it with your circle (see the next section).
  • You can disconnect at any time. Disconnecting your bank stops all further access immediately. You can also revoke access from your bank's side.

3. What your circle can (and can't) see

Relapse visibility is the heart of savd, and it only ever happens with your explicit consent. When you join a circle, you are agreeing — clearly and knowingly, inside the app — to share your streak status with the people in that circle. Here is the exact boundary:

  • Your circle can see: your display name and avatar, your current streak (for example, "Day 47 clean"), whether a relapse was detected and roughly when, your check-ins, and your contributions and progress toward shared goals.
  • Your circle can never see: your bank balances, your individual transactions, the names of merchants, the amounts you spent, your income, or anything else from your bank data. A slip shows up as a status — never as a statement.
  • Consent is per-circle and revocable. You choose whom you invite and which circles you join. If you leave a circle, its members stop receiving updates about you.

Please choose your circle thoughtfully. savd shows relapse status to the friends you picked — that honesty is the product — so invite people you genuinely trust with that information.

4. What we never do

  • We never sell your personal information. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
  • We never move, hold, or touch your money. savd has read-only visibility and nothing more.
  • We never share your transaction data with your circle, with gambling companies, or with marketers.
  • We never use your relapse or recovery information for advertising, and we never disclose it except as described in this policy or as required by law.

5. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Run the core features: detecting gambling transactions, maintaining streaks, powering circles, and tracking goals.
  • Send you the notifications you have enabled (for example, a circle member's check-in or a goal milestone).
  • Keep the service secure, debug problems, and prevent abuse.
  • Understand, in aggregate and de-identified form, how the app is used so we can improve it.

We share information only with the service providers who help us run savd (such as cloud hosting and the bank connection provider), each bound by contractual confidentiality obligations, and only the minimum they need. We may also disclose information if the law genuinely requires it, or to protect the safety of our users.

6. How we protect it

  • All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.
  • Bank connections use tokenized, read-only access through established providers — savd never stores bank credentials because savd never has them.
  • Access to production systems is restricted, logged, and limited to the small number of people who need it to operate the service.
  • We will notify affected users promptly if a breach ever affects their personal information, as required by applicable law.

No system is perfectly secure, and we won't pretend otherwise — but we treat your data with the care we'd want for our own.

7. Data retention and deletion

  • While your account is active, we keep the data needed to run your streaks, goals, and circles.
  • Delete everything, any time. You can delete your account from inside the app or by emailing hello@savd.app. Deletion removes your account information, bank connection, transaction-derived data, streaks, and goal activity from our production systems within 30 days, and from encrypted backups on their normal expiry cycle (no longer than 90 days).
  • What may remain. Records we are legally required to keep, and de-identified aggregate data that can no longer be linked to you.
  • Circles you leave behind. Messages of support you sent to a circle may remain visible to that circle (with your name removed after deletion), the same way a text you sent a friend stays on their phone.

8. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR in Europe or the CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have specific legal rights over your personal information. We extend the substance of these rights to all savd users, wherever they live:

  • Access. Ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction. Ask us to fix personal information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Deletion. Ask us to delete your personal information (see Data retention and deletion above).
  • Portability. Ask for your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
  • Opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising — so there is nothing to opt out of, but the right is yours regardless.
  • No discrimination. We will never treat you worse for exercising any of these rights.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@savd.app. We will verify the request comes from you and respond within the timeframe required by applicable law (and in any case within 30 days where feasible). If you are in a jurisdiction with a supervisory authority, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with it.

9. Age requirement (17+)

savd is intended for people aged 17 and older. It deals with gambling recovery and connects to financial accounts, and it is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 17. If you believe someone under 17 has created an account, contact us at hello@savd.app and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

As savd launches and grows, this policy will change. When it does, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top, and for material changes we will tell you clearly — in the app or by email — before they take effect. We will never quietly change what your circle can see about you.

11. Contact us

Questions, concerns, or requests about your data — including access, correction, or deletion — can be sent to hello@savd.app. We read everything.
